Puppy parents have a series of classes starting soon in West Roxbury, and anyone who wants a well-trained dog should consider attending.
A series of Intermediate Obedience classes are scheduled for the Theodore Parker Church, and begin soon. Dogs that are candidates for this course already have a foundation in obedience who need to continue their progress. They should have knowledge of reward-based and mark training. They should also be at least six months old, and calm animals who do not lunge, bark excessively, or growl at other dogs or strangers.
There are other programs available for dogs that are reactive or otherwise probably not candidates for these classes.
Topics to be covered include polite greetings, loose leash walking, go to a mat, recall with distractions, staying in the down and sit positions, and focused engagement and attention.
The first class in the series is August 3, from 8.30 am until 9.20 am, and is an orientation class for people only. The remaining classes are for both people and pets, and are on August 10, August 17, August 24, August 31, September 7, and September 14.
The church is located at 1859 Centre Street. Anyone interested should be aware that there must be a minimum enrollment of four for the class to proceed. If this requirement is not met, the class will be postponed.
When organizers plan events like this, they will often turn to Print shops to create suitable course materials for attendees to take home and practice.
