An upcoming class in West Roxbury kicks off a series of training sessions for man’s best friend.
The class is presented by Sit Pretty Dog Training and focuses on K9 Nose Work. The instruction is great fun for dogs of different levels of physical capability, sizes, and ages, who will learn to develop and use their ability to detect odors. While they practice this skill, their owners, who will be observing, will learn to understand the subtle signals dogs send using body language.
During class, plans are to leave each dog alone inside the building off leash, to help it build its independence and confidence. This means other dogs will have to be crated inside or outside completely.
The event host will send an email after people have registered to go over weather considerations, safety, logistics, and commonly asked questions. People whose dogs have trouble being crated or waiting in a car should bring a handler for the animal so the owner can watch the class. Anyone with an aggressive dog needs to contact them in advance.
The Introduction to K9 Nose Work Class (Level 1) is scheduled for January 8, at the Theodore Parker Church, located at 1859 Centre Street in West Roxbury, with an additional class each week through February 12. Each session runs from 6.30 pm until 7.20 pm, and Sara Saperstein, MA, KPA-CTP, CNWI, FFCP is the instructor. Organizers of events like this may use flyer printing to create instructional handouts.
