Fitchburg households that would like to give Mother Nature a helping hand may find it easy to do so when they take advantage of local collection day.
Mid-October will see the community offer its Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day to the public, and it is open to residents of Westminster and Fitchburg only. Advance registration is not needed, and it will be taking place at 101 Fitchburg Road.
Starting in the early morning, vehicles will be able to arrive and be unloaded, and a wide assortment of materials will be accepted. These include antifreeze and other automotive chemicals, oils, oil-based paints, car batteries, fluorescent bulbs, drain cleaners, household chemicals, insecticides and herbicides, varnishes, and thermostats. Items not accepted include explosives, medical waste, propane tanks, asbestos, oven cleaners, and alkaline or carbon zinc batteries, with a full list of the items that can and cannot be brought available on the event listing on the city’s website.
A community cleanup or disposal day can help to keep hazardous waste out of local collection streams, ensuring they are disposed of properly. A brochure printing company can prepare mailers to send out to area households ahead of an event so they will know how they can get involved.
Fitchburg will be running this event on Wednesday, October 14 and it will begin at 9:00 am.
