Fitchburg literacy program seeks volunteers

Literacy is the key to knowledge, and a Fitchburg organization has put out a call to the community seeking volunteers for a program that will help others to develop this skill.

Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area has organized an information session offering an introduction to its initiatives and why they are important. There will be time built into the schedule for questions, and anyone interested in getting involved is encouraged to attend.

The facilitator for the activity will discuss what sorts of literacy support the group provides, which include tutoring and conversation circles. Details about the training provided to group volunteers is on the agenda, and some of its current students and volunteers will be on hand to share their own experiences with the group. No previous experience with foreign languages or teaching is required.

Literacy building and other community service organizations often count on volunteers to help deliver their programming. A printing services company can provide everything from training materials and modules to branded clothing for them to wear during organized events.

Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area has scheduled its information session for potential volunteers on Wednesday, February 4. Everyone who is interested can register through its Facebook listing. The event will begin at 10:00 am and continue until 11:30 am, with Fitchburg City Hall being the venue.
