What's Happening in Fitchburg, MA…

Fitchburg invited to forage for fresh wild foods

Foraging offers a way to connect with nature while putting fresh food on the table, and a Fitchburg class will introduce some of the techniques of the practice.

The property at Gibbet Hill Farm provides many opportunities to forage, and a guided excursion to the site has been planned for anyone who would like to add some wild foods to their menu. David Craft will be the facilitator for the walking workshop, and each attendee will get some hands-on experience.

The participants will learn how to identify edible plants as well as ones that are inedible or even toxic. Principles of ethical forging will be discussed, along with how to do so safely. At the end of the outing, everyone will be treated to some light bites that feature wild ingredients, and the function’s listing explained that the venue is home to up to 35 different edible species.

As this function will take place rain or shine, everyone is asked to dress appropriately and wear good walking shoes. Stationery printers can provide organizers of culinary workshops with supplies ranging from waivers and letterheads, to printed recipe cards.

The Gibbet Hill Grill, which can be found at 61 Lowell Road in Grotton, will be offering this introduction to the joys of finding wild foods on June 4. It will start at 10:30 am, and tickets are $60.
