What's Happening in Fitchburg, MA…

Fitchburg area to discover joys of fly fishing

A Fitchburg area company will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a class focused on helping the participant get to grips with fly fishing.

Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival will be marking its 10th year with a class that will introduce fly fishing for the beginner. It will include the basics of the hobby, and those who participate will then be able to hit the rivers and streams on their own.

The learners will find out how to choose the right rod, reel, and line for the fish they wish to catch and the water they will be fishing in, and various types of flies will be introduced. The group will be taught an assortment of knots they may find helpful, and other gear will be discussed as well. Casting will be explored, and during the final hour, the attendees will head outdoors to get in some fly fishing practice. Each attendee must have a valid fishing license, as well as water, snacks, and bug spray. They may supply their own gear, although some will be available to rent on site.

A workshop that introduces a particular activity can be a fun way for participants to get started. Manuals and other texts for a session can be prepared by print shops that offer binding services.

Fly Fishing 101 has been scheduled for Sunday, April 21. It will begin at 8:00 am at 12 Dudley Road in Townsend.
