New wayfinding signs erected in downtown Beverly

The city of Beverly Main Streets Executive Director Gin Wallace recently announced that new wayfinding Signs in the downtown area have been erected.

No doubt the city is using flying printing and other printing means to let residents and visitors know that they will have assistance in finding many attractions and businesses in the city, ranging from the beach to such necessities as parking lots.

The Signs were made possible and paid for by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development with a $10,000 grant, and were to be eye-catching and offer help visitors looking for the waterfront district and key spots in the downtown area.

The Signs are being erected in two phases, with the first ones in progress now on Elliott and Cabot Streets, which serve as gateways into the community, and from the Beverly-Salem Bridge, which also provides an entrance into the town. The second phase will involve Signs from Bridge Street that will help people to get into town and, according to Wallace, will be erected at a time yet to be confirmed.

The Signs were designed by a collaboration of volunteers from the Beverly Main Streets Design Committee and staff from the planning department of the City of Beverly, who hired a consultant to work along with them and develop three different groups of designs.

Many shapes, colors, and sizes were evaluated and shared with heads of city departments, elected officials, and stakeholders in the downtown area, and then presented last summer to the residents to vote on their preferred design.
