A federal TechHire grant of $4m has been given to the Northeast Advanced Manufacturing Consortium, local workforce investment boards, and four Massachusetts community colleges and additional technical and vocational high schools to provide training in the counties of Essex, Middlesex, and Worcester.
This four-year grant from the United States Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration will enable this consortium, known as Massachusetts Advanced Manufacturing TechHire Consortium, to train 300 young people and 100 other underemployed, unemployed, or dislocated workers, and provide support services, work-based experiences, and job placement in advanced manufacturing.
The four community colleges are Mount Wachusett Community College, North Shore Community College (with a campus in Beverly), Northern Essex Community College, and Middlesex Community College. They are working in association with 13 different advanced manufacturing employers.
Congresswoman Niki Tsongas congratulated the four colleges on receiving the grant so that their training partnership program in advanced manufacturing can be accelerated. The future of the country needs more educational opportunities and a boost to manufacturing in America, she said, and this grant will enable the state to continue its leadership in both areas by providing high-quality training and programs that lead to certification, so that the local workforce and manufacturing companies can be strengthened.
This partnership may benefit from the assistance of a local printing companies to provide more information about these programs to people in need of them in their respective communities.
