Gallagher, a comedian known for his ‘sledge-o-matic’ routine, will be making his last performance at the Larcom Theatre in Beverly later this month after a career of almost 40 years.
He has become the famous watermelon smasher, demolishing all types of fruits and vegetables on stage for most of his career, but he also offers stand-up routines that include insightful observations and creative word play.
He was a pioneer in comedy specials on television, with 14 specials on Showtime during the 1980s. He also attracted attention when he ran in the 2003 California recall election.
