Beverly workshop to explore native plant seed saving

Like many moms, Mother Nature can sometimes use a helping hand, and a Beverly environmental stewardship class will allow locals to play their part.

Early December will see members of the public with an interest in horticulture head to Long Hill for a workshop that will introduce them to seed saving methods. The techniques taught will be suitable for native species.

Erin Hammes, who works with the Native Plant Trust as a Plant Records and Production Horticulturist, will be the facilitator. Attendees will learn how to identify an assortment of native plants and decide which methods of seed saving will work best. The planting side of the equation will also be on the agenda, and everyone will get their hands dirty planting some seeds to take home with them in pots. All materials needed are included, and both Native Plant Trust members and non-members are welcome to sign up.

Offering the public an opportunity to sit in on a workshop is one of the ways an environmental organization can do a good turn for the planet. Learning materials such as promotional Pens, Booklets, and other full-color publications can all be crafted for an activity by an area printer.

The Horticulture Learning Center at Long Gill will serve as the classroom space for this hands-on introduction to seed saving. It is scheduled for December 9th.
