Beverly to hold hearing on community projects

A new funding round of the Community Preservation Act (CPA) for 2020 to 2021 will be launched by the Community Preservation Committee of the city of Beverly later this month with a public hearing. The CPA was adopted by the city eight years ago.

The public hearing will include a discussion of the CPA, how much funding is available, what kinds of projects are eligible for the funding, and what projects the CPA has funded in the past. Applicants who have been successful with these funds will talk about the application process and their projects. Announcements of such important hearings are often made known throughout the community with poster printing.

The types of projects that are eligible for these funds are of four types—historic preservation, recreation, open space, and community housing. There have been 57 projects that have received these funds since the inception of the program, and these include many new play structures in the city’s parks and improvements to the GAR Hall on Dane Street. Other less visible projects have included creation of a historic preservation plan, restoration of historic documents, and the purchase of property in order to keep it as open space.

The hearing will be held online at 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 8. Residents of the community are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts regarding the priorities and needs of the community and possible projects.
