More than $700,000 in state grants has been awarded to Beverly to help reshape its harbor.
The funds will help determine the viability of floating docks for charter boats, with $62,400 going towards a feasibility study. However, the majority ($656,000) will be spent on supporting the reconstruction of the fishing pier.
The new pier will replace the one that has now fallen into poor condition. It will be a concrete pier with steel supports and a new hoist that, it is hoped, will be of great benefit to the commercial fishing industry in the harbor. Local Print shops are often hired to create Flyers and Booklets with more details about such projects, the timeline for their completion, and how they are funded.
Mike Cahill, mayor of Beverly, said that these funds will not only help the commercial fishing industry in town but also be of great benefits to visitors and recreational boaters at the harbor. He expressed his gratitude at the support of the Council, as the commercial fishing fleet in the town is in urgent need of these improvements.
Paul Earl, chair of the Harbor Management Authority, said these grants will help to ensure the viability of the commercial fishing industry in town and also explore options for economic development in the infrastructure, thus increasing employment and commerce in the city.
