Recently at the Homecoming Lobster Festival in Lynch Park in Beverly, the Beverly Public Library debuted its new printer, a MakerBot Replicator desktop Fifth Generation three-dimensional one.
The printer is 21 by 17 inches in size and its cost of $3,800 was paid for by the Friends of the Library. Any item up to 10 by 8 by 6 inches can be printed. Items produced at the festival included a teapot, the Pixar lamp, a lobster, and Harry Potter glasses.
Pat Cirone, director of the library, was very happy to have the printer running as kids will find it useful in their training with regard to science and technology, and inventors can make use of it for developing prototypes. It can also be used to Print a selected design from a computer or directly from a USB drive attached to the printer.
The first workshop on how to use the printer was held on Saturday, August 16. Following this, there will be a series of learning programs based on age that will be free to the public. Then, in the fall, residents of Beverly will be able to reserve times to work by themselves with the printer for a fee of $1 per session.
Printing companies are likely to be offering the use of these printers as well when they become more commercially available.Get a Free Quote for Print
