Retailer and pantry to join forces

An opportunity for Florence shoppers to really make a difference for those struggling with food insecurity is coming up later this month.

The Brighton Center announced on April 10 that it will be partnering with Meijer in the Michigan-based retailer’s ‘Simply Give’ program. Simply Give is a food pantry donation program that is customer-driven. Meijer’s program fills shelves at more than 200 pantries in five states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

With the purchase of $10 Simply Give donation card, a Meijer food-only gift card is provided to that store’s local pantry. Last year, Brighton Center provided Family Support services to 3,188 families in addition to the Brighton Center’s ‘Choice Food Pantry’. Printing companies can be instrumental in obtaining donations as well as reaching those who can benefit from charitable organizations like the Brighton Center.

The Simply Give program takes place three times during the year: spring, fall, and over the winter holidays. Special Double Match Days are scheduled to take place April 17 and 18, during which a $10 donation card will doubly matched by $20, resulting in the Brighton Center receiving $30.

The Brighton Center’s Food Pantry will be the recipient of cards bought at the Florence Meijer store on Houston Road until May 11. Donation cards will be on-hand at both the Brighton Center and Meijer store but can only be made active at Meijer.
