Christian Dallas, a well-known muralist in the region, has been hired to paint a 100-foot tall mural on the wall of Stringtown Bar and Grill to honor Main Street's past.
Florence’s director of business and community development, Joshua Hunt, stated that the undertaking has been in the planning stages for almost a year and displayed a sketch of the finished mural which is on its third or fourth redo. He went on to say:
“The stagecoach represents that the city of Florence was a stop on the stagecoach route from Covington to Lexington. There is what looks like a white cat in the window that will be a skunk, because Florence was known as ‘polecat,’ which is a skunk, at some point in their search for identity.”
Hunt's comment that they have been working on this mural for some time was reaffirmed by Councilmember Pat Wingo, who also mentioned that Stringtown's owner, Rick Potter, has been eager to get the project underway.
Hunt clarified that even in the event that Potter sold the property, they were still awaiting a formal lease with that would commit them to maintaining the painting. Leases tend to have official Letterheads on them.
The artist, Christian Dallas, is known as a modern painter and muralist.
