Parents educating their children at home will soon have a Homegrown Nutrition Workbook to add to their curriculum.
The text will launch at the next Cincinnati Chapter meeting of the Weston A. Price Foundation. Educators from neighboring communities, including Florence, Highland Heights, and Newport, may also wish to attend the event to gain access to this unique material.
Designed by foundation member Liz Haselmayer, the new Level One workbook is designed to educate children about the health benefits of a diet centered on wholesome, unprocessed foods. The curriculum encourages children to learn how to prepare meals from natural ingredients and to share the benefits of healthy eating with their peers.
While home-schooling her own children, Haselmayer was unsuccessful in her search for readily available content on natural food diets and cooking in the home, prompting her to take action herself. She will share her story at the launch party, and provide tips on presenting the curriculum.
The workbook is the first publication produced by Homegrown Education. The text incorporates graphic design and may also include sections for the child to make notes and complete practice quizzes.
The afternoon meeting will include a shared potluck meal, the workbook launch presentation, door prizes, raffle draws and an opportunity to meet local farmers and natural food vendors. Participants are asked to bring their own dishes and cutlery, and to wear a face mask.
The Homegrown Nutrition Workbook launch party will be held on Sunday, April 11 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at The Living Room, located at 2368 Norwood Avenue in Cincinnati. The meeting is free to attend but participants should register in advance on the Eventbrite website.
