Northern Kentucky receives boost for pregnancy services

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels (HOKC) awarded a $2,065 grant to Care Net Pregnancy Services of Northern Kentucky to purchase baby car seats for patients and clients who urgently require them.

Examples of such situations are parents who have to bring their baby home after seeking treatment or when grandparents are unexpectedly given responsibility for a grandson. Care Net distributes car seats in around 35 of these situations annually.

Joy Tarleton, who is a Kentucky Colonel and serves as Care Net’s director, commented:

“Without the assistance of such kind organizations, we couldn’t meet the needs of our clients and the community.”

Northern Kentucky has been served by Care Net since 1999. Its 28-member staff greeted 955 different customers over close to 4000 visits and they anticipate exceeding similar numbers this year. Care Net operates three hospitals located in Florence, Cold Spring, and Williamstown.

The nonprofit offers parenting classes, limited obstetric ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, and other supplies including car seats, diapers, cribs, baby food, and 2T clothes. More than 100 community members, including certified mentors, volunteer to help the ministry achieve its goals. Care Net is supported by contributions, and all services are offered to customers at no cost. Promotional products can be handed out as donations.

According to HOKC Commanding General Gary Boschert, completing the $5 million in grant submissions in 2024–2025 proved challenging. However, they managed to provide $2.5 million through the Good Works Program.
