Manufacturing Day celebration highlights opportunities

Manufacturing Day found more than 100 students and members of the community learning more about the career opportunities available in manufacturing at the Balluff facility in Florence.

October 2 saw an effort to erase misconceptions about the modern manufacturing environment, as well as to highlight the benefits of a career in manufacturing, as Balluff welcomed visitors to its plant. Included in the event were tours of the facility, hands-on sensor learning labs and product and technology demonstrations.

Among the highlights of the day was the chance to experience firsthand the new Balluff Demo Van, which uses the latest in automation solutions.

Manufacturing Day is a national event made possible by the support of manufacturers at the local level. Thousands of manufacturing companies host students, their parents and teachers, jobseekers and others from their local community. Explaining the highly technical work carried out by companies such as Balluff sometimes requires the services of a booklet printer.

This is the first year that Balluff has participated in the annual event. However, the company takes part in TECHFIT (Teaching Engineering Concepts to Harness Future Innovators and Technologists) and is a supporter of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives for local students. Additionally the company provides educational opportunities through its student co-op programs.

Balluff is a leader in senor technology with 50 years of manufacturing experience. Its North America headquarters is here in Florence.
