Kentucky aglow for work zone safety this week

The Bluegrass State, including Florence, will be shining a light on work safety at the invitation of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC).

Organizations, as well as residents, are encouraged by KYTC to bathe structures, buildings, bridges, and homes in orange light tomorrow, April 10. The oranges lights are a response to the ‘Glow Orange, Kentucky” initiative, which was inspired by the nationwide ‘Go Orange Day’ observance to promote work zone safety.

The initiative was first introduced in 2017 when 13 organizations participated by lighting conspicuous structures such as the Big Four Bridge in Louisville and the Florence Y’all Water Tower.

Public service campaigns such as this one often benefit from the distribution of Promotional Products such as Pens or pencils that help instill the chosen message into the public’s mind.

According to data collected from the Federal Highway Administration one person, on average, dies every 13 hours while another is injured each 13 minutes in a work zone. Glow Orange, Kentucky is designed to raise awareness throughout the state about how just a moment’s distraction can have serious consequences.

National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 8-12, which coincides with the unofficial beginning of the construction and road project season for a number of states.
