Healthy cooking class comes to Florence Library

The Florence Library will be hosting a healthy eating cooking class in the first few days of 2022, run by the community education group Boone County Cooperative Extension.

Instructors will use the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) nutritional guide, MyPlate, to assist them with this lesson.

MyPlate is designed to help people reduce weight-related diseases by helping them be more active and eat more healthily. It outlines the amounts of the five food groups (proteins, grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy) that should be present in a healthy diet. MyPlate demonstrates these recommended amounts with a graphic design that consists of a plate and cup. Sections of the plate and cup are colored and labeled as different food groups.

The Boone County Cooperative Extension works to help better the lives of Boone County residents. The group does this by providing its local students, who range from children to adults, with the information they need to help solve identified problems that plague the community as a whole. Alongside a number of nutrition education programs, the group also runs educational programs that relate to youth leadership, agriculture, horticulture, and environmental protection.

The class will take place in the Florence Library on Tuesday, January 4 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. More information can be found on the event page on the library’s website.
