Golf-soccer hybrid kicked into Kentucky

A game that combines the leisurely pace of golf with the accuracy of soccer will soon be available in Florence. A local company, World of Golf, has announced it is venturing into the emerging international sport of FootGolf.

Although new to most Americans, FootGolf started around 10 years ago and came to the U.S. in 2011. The game would seem to be perfect for older adults and those whose weight or other physical limitations would preclude them from running after a soccer ball. The game has proven popular with kids, teens, and adults of 30 years and under.

FootGolf is played with a soccer ball over a course of 9 to 18 holes on a specially adapted golf course, and follows the same rules as golf. The difference in the two games is that in FootGolf the ball is kicked instead of being struck with a golf club, as the name would suggest. As in golf, the objective is to get your ball in the hole with the fewest number of kicks.

An American FootGolf League has already been formed and World of Golf will be one of the sport's 130 accredited courses, and the Bluegrass State's first. Poster printing will likely be the optimal means of introducing the public to this up-and-coming sport. World of Golf expects the required renovations to permit FootGolf will be completed by mid-July or early August.
