Food-lovers ready to congregate at Covington

Florence residents who harbor a deep love for goetta, as well as those who are just curious about the dish, can indulge in the Ohio Valley favorite this month, as the MainStrasse Village in Covington hosts its 14th Annual “Original” Goettafest.

The three-day event draws goetta enthusiasts from all around the Greater Cincinnati area. A type of German sausage brought to the area by immigrants during the 1800s, goetta is generally considered a breakfast item, but it takes on another life at this festival.

Attendees can enjoy a take on such dishes as omelets, burgers, and chili, all styled around the goetta. Traditional festival foods and refreshments will also be on hand.

It will not be just about eating either; the goetta will have to share the spotlight with arts and crafts, shopping opportunities, music, and activities geared at children. Additionally, the historic MainStrasse Village, with its unique shops and tree-lined promenade alone, should make the 10-mile trip worthwhile for culture vultures.

Professional printing companies play many roles in festivals such as Goettafest. Providing flyer, poster and banner printing services are just the tip of the iceberg. Those manning the goetta booths will likely have recipes printed for the various dishes they are offering.

This year’s event takes place June 13, 14, and 15, and it is sponsored by J.B.’s Barbecue.
