The Florence library will be hosting an event themed after three Studio Ghibli films this March, featuring photo opportunities, crafts, and games.
Studio Ghibli is a prominent Japanese animation studio. Five of their films hold places among the top 10 highest-grossing films in their country. Many have won the Animage Grand Prix award. Five of the studio's films have garnered Academy Award Nominations. 'Spirited Away', which has often been named the studio's best film, won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The three films that the event will center an are 'Spirited Away', 'Howl's Moving Castle', and 'My Neighbor Totoro'. 'My Neighbor Totoro' is about two girls' adventures with a cat-like spirit named Totoro. 'Howl's Moving Castle' tells the story of a young woman's romantic adventure with a wizard named Howl, while the story of 'Spirited Away' is about a girl who is forced to work in a spirit world bathhouse and fight against its evil owner.
These films feature some scary scenes, but are less violent and graphic than some other Ghibli works. As such, they are appropriate as children's films.
The event will have multiple 45 minute timeslots throughout the late morning and early afternoon on Saturday, March 12. Guests are expected to register for the slot they prefer. Libraries can make use of printing services to help create crafts and games for events like these.
