Residents of Florence are invited to join millions of people across the U.S. in this year’s National Night Out.
Florence is one of about 20 Kentucky communities taking part in the event, which is designed to reconnect residents with the workers who provide public services, and with each other.
Since it began 36 years ago The National Night Out has grown to 16,000 communities in every state and involves 38 million people.
It began officially in 1984. Residents sat on their porches with outdoor lights on as a sign of solidarity and camaraderie in the face of criminal elements.
It has grown into a nation-wide festival-like event, with a mission to connect neighborhoods with their police services, and to raise awareness of citizen watch programs and police drug enforcement activities.
In Florence, city officials and members of city council will be hand to speak to residents about their concerns, and to share some of their future plans for the city.
Local fire and police departments will have vehicles on display and there will be activities and food for children. Experts will also be providing bicycle maintenance and inspecting bicycles for safety issues.
Community events like this are great opportunities to use Print shops. Banner printing can help create a festive atmosphere, and civic officials and council members will surely be handing out Business Cards at the event.
The National Night Out takes place every year on the first Saturday in August.
