The City of Florence will be doing its part in keeping America beautiful when it asks residents to join its citywide cleanup near the end of next month.
Registered volunteers will get a free breakfast, and then be given cleaning supplies and transported to one of several locations around Florence to pick up litter along the roadsides. Volunteers will also get treated to lunch after the cleanup is over.
Residents of all ages are welcome to join the effort, which is part of a national program. The Great American Cleanup is in its 22nd year and takes place in 15,000 communities across the country. It is the largest program of its kind in America, with an estimated 550,000 people volunteering to pick up litter and beautify their neighborhoods. It is spearheaded by the national organization Keep America Beautiful (KAB).
According to KAB, in 2018, volunteers across the U.S. picked more than 24 million pounds of trash, and 68 million pounds of recyclables. They also planted thousands of trees.
Businesses in Florence will be offering gift cards as prizes for “special trash” collected. Gift cards for events like these can be created with professional, local printing services. Volunteers are asked to call (859) 647-5439 to sign up.
The Florence Great American Cleanup is still going ahead at the time of writing, set for Saturday, April 25 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Florence Maintenance Facility, 7850 Tanners Lane in Florence. Breakfast is served at 8:30 am, and lunch is served at noon.
