Florence police officers got the opportunity to find out how they would react if faced with any of a number of emergency situations. Moreover, officers were given the opportunity to replay their acts and analyze what they could have done better.
Operating on the premise that practice makes perfect, the Training Lab Simulator takes officers through 30 scenarios ranging from traffic violation stops to domestic disputes. The simulations are detailed and every action of the officer is open to evaluation, from how the police speak to witnesses, victims, and suspects, to their radio conversations.
Everything, up to the point where a suspect is arrested or an officer is handing out his or her digital Business Cards, is open to examination
Florence Police officer, Matt Day, described the simulations by saying:
"To put it in simplest terms, it's an awesome video game. I'm not going to lie, it still gets your heart rate up some because you're looking down the sights and you're possibly going to pull the trigger on a pretty hairy situation."
It is a “video game” the officers do not play solo though; how the scenarios develop is in the hand of another person, the “controller”, who determines whether a situation escalates or the suspect surrenders.
Florence had the simulator on loan until February 3.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
