The City of Florence is joining thousands of communities across the country in trying to dispose of medication in a responsible and ethical way.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is an initiative of the Drug Enforcement Agency. It is to combat the growing problem of health issues raised from the misuse of controlled, prescription medicines.
Residents of Florence are urged to go through their medicine cabinets and bathrooms, and look for any expired and unused prescription drugs, capsules and pills, or patches. The DEA does not accept syringes, needles or liquids.
Residents can drop them off at the Florence Government Building where the drugs will be collected and then disposed of properly. The service is free and participants can remain anonymous.
The last Take Back Day in April saw more than 6,000 sites collect more than 450 tons of prescription drugs.
Community events like these are good opportunities to use brochure printing to raise awareness of public health issues, and to educate residents on what they can do to help address the problem.
The Florence National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 26, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Florence Police Department at the Florence Government Building, 8100 Ewing Blvd. There is also a drop box at Kroger Marketplace, 7685 Mall Road.
