From Afghans to Whippets, pedigree to mutts, Florence is inviting its four-legged residents to come out and strut their stuff at an annual event that puts dogs in the spotlight.
Poochfest gives local pet owners a chance to show-off their canine companions in a day of competition and socialization.
There is bound to be a few surprises when the dogs are allowed to show off their skills. There will be an obstacle course, a tricks contest, and a pet-owner look-a-like contest. Prizes are awarded for Best in Show and Best in Parade.
To enter a dog, owners must pay a $5 registration fee. Owners must also ensure their dogs are:
• Held on a leash at all times
• Healthy and have their updated shots
• Have current city licenses
• And owners must bring their own waste
disposal kits (“pooper-scoopers”)
Pet businesses will be on hand on promoting products and services for pet health and grooming, obedience, nutrition, and boarding. Vendors wanting to attend can contact the City of Florence. Business owners at shows such as this one can benefit from printing a few extra Business Cards to have on hand.
Volunteers are always wanted to help herd the contestants.
Poochfest is scheduled for Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Florence Senior Activity Center, 7431 U.S. 42 in Florence. The competition begins at 10:30 a.m.
