Florence explores new plumbing notification system

A new site that will let locals track their water consumption and even receive notifications of possible line breaks is being finalized in Florence.

Erick Hall, the Public Services Director, was at a recent city council meeting where he commented:

“They can get a text, an email, a call, letting them know water’s running through their line.”

Although the gateway is not yet complete, Hall promised to notify the people as soon as it is. The council also disclosed that an insurance provider has been selected to help homeowners with the expenses related to sewage line replacement and repairs to water lines. Contracts like this are likely to feature Letterheads on them.

The insurance provider is HomeServe, a company based in Connecticut that provides single-family homeowners with coverage. Homeowners may select from three different policy options: an indoor drainage and plumbing plan costs $9.99 per month, coverage for sewer lines costs $7.75, and external line coverage costs $5.75. By contrast, Hall notes that the repair or replacement of an uninsured line can run into thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

Additionally, Hall stated during a city council meeting that although the corporation delivers on its commitments to customers, the city does not facilitate people' access to insurance. The only thing it can do is let them use the brand to give it legitimacy and give the recipients peace of mind about signing up for the program.
