Jane Beshear, wife of Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, made a stop at Ockerman Elementary along with “first dog” Tory.
Beshear chose Ockerman Elementary as the first stop on her weeklong Kentucky Literacy Celebration tour. In addition to visiting Ockerman on March 16, the first lady also made a stop in Hebron to visit Conner Middle School.
The Literacy Celebration tour is to promote reading, as well as advocate for community literacy programs. While at the Florence school, Mrs. Bashear told the students how much she enjoyed meeting children across the state. She further explained that one of the values of Books was that they can enable us to “meet” and “see” people and places that we may not have a chance to visit in person.
Poster printing services are a valuable resource for schools, libraries, and recreation centers to use for promoting reading and special appearances like this.
While reading to students from the book ‘Sam Saves the Mansion’, in which the first couple’s dog plays a part, the Jack Russell terrier rested quietly on the floor jumping up only when hearing her name.
The book includes many interesting facts about the Frankfort Mansion where, while in office, Kentucky’s governor and his or her family live. Written to celebrate the mansion’s 100th anniversary, the book is told from Tory’s point of view and details how he gives another dog, Sam, a tour of the official residence.Get a Free Quote for Books
