Cyclone ice run raises money for hockey in Northern Kentucky

Locals are urged to don their wool hats and gloves -- and maybe an extra layer of socks – for a really cool upcoming event.

The Cincinnati Cyclones -- the hockey home-team for northern Kentucky – is holding its Frozen 5K/10K run in the middle of winter.

The run raises money for the team's charity wing, The Cincinnati Cyclones Foundation, which aims to lessen the financial burden that playing hockey puts on families in the Greater Cincinnati area, including Northern Kentucky. The foundation underwrites ice time at arenas in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky so that all children can have access to the sport.

The route takes runners along the frozen Ohio River and through Cincinnati's Transit Center under Second Street. Participants of all ages will be running with Cyclones mascots Twister and Puckchop.

The entry fee is $40 for the 5K run, and $45 for the 10K. Runners receive a shirt, medal, post-race hot chocolate, voucher to see a Cincinnati Cyclone hockey game for free, and snacks and swag from event sponsors.

Events such as these require Banners and signage for runners. Start and finish line banners can be created and printed at local Print shops, and can include logos of teams and sponsors.

The Cincinnati Cyclones Frozen 5K/10K run takes place Saturday, February 1 at 9:00 am. Runners need to report to the Heritage Bank Center, 100 Broadway St. In Cincinnati, Ohio at 8:00 am. The arena is a quick 15-minute drive from Florence.
