Countrys premier Oktoberfest on its way

Only a few miles from Florence, the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the U.S. is being held in Cincinnati.

Dubbed Zinzinnati and hosted by Sam Adams Breweries, the celebration this year is expected to draw over a half a million people to downtown Cincinnati. The annual event pays homage to the city’s German heritage, as well as a history of brewing beer in the area.

German music will continually be played live from seven stages, while more than 30 food vendors will sell Germanic food over a six-block area. There will be lots of beer (for those old enough to consume it), singing, dancing, dressing in German folk costumes, and opportunities to mingle with fellow revelers.

The dancing will be primarily polkas and waltzes, but a highlight of each Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is the celebrity-led mass performance of the ‘Chicken Dance’. Last year George Takei led the dance, and it was Homer Simpson who did the honors in 2009. The first year it was performed at the festival, 1994, it was led by the Crown Prince of Bavaria. Nick and Drew Lachey take the reins this year.

Poster printing services can be used to inform the public of all the fun events at a festival like Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, such as the Running of the Wieners (which involves dachshunds dressed as hot dogs) and the Gemuetlichkeit Games. The festival takes place September 19 to 21, and attendance is free.
