Cornhole tournament to tackle elder maltreatment in Florence

The Northern Kentucky Area Development District will be hosting a cornhole tournament in Florence.

This family-friendly event promises a day of great fun, competition, and a variety of lawn games. There will also be food, drinks, and ample activities for both kids and adults.

The primary agenda of this event is to raise awareness about different types of elder maltreatment, such as financial exploitation, abuse, and abandonment. Districts will often also collaborate with a local flyer printing service to create Flyers and other educational materials to distribute during their event. These may include key information about steps to take to prevent maltreatment, as well as Signs to look out for.

The tournament also aims to raise funds to support organizations that help victims of elder maltreatment. As such, all profits from this event will go to the Sheltering, Advocating, Removing and Housing (SARAH) and Elder Maltreatment Alliance (EMA) organizations. These two non-profits were created to support the most vulnerable seniors in Kentucky.

SARAH assists older adults who are in emergency situations such as neglect, abuse, and domestic violence by offering them financial assistance to ensure they live a good quality life. Meanwhile, EMA works with numerous organizations to educate the community, professionals, and law enforcement about elder abuse.

The tournament will take place this Saturday, June 1, starting at 11:00 am.
