Shamrock Trading to expand in Overland Park

A Kansas City area trading firm is looking to expand its operations, and it could be a major source of employment.

Shamrock Trading has announced plans to build multiple office towers in Overland Park, pending approval by the city. The company has claimed it could create over a thousand jobs with an reported average salary of $56,000.

Shamrock provides financial and logistical services for the transportation industry, with specializations such as diesel fuel programs, software, and international trade. Its subsidiaries include Ryan Transport, RTS Financial, and ProTransport. The company recently acquired a 30-acre property at the northeast corner of 95th and Metcalf, home of the former Overland Park French Market, where it plans to build the new offices.

For now, more detailed plans still need to be presented to the public and voted on by city council, but state government has spoken highly of the project, with both Kansas Governor Jeff Coyler and Interim Commerce Secretary Robert North highlighting the benefit to the state's business community.

Coyler also suggested that the company is negotiating with the city over financial incentives. Once the buildings go up, print shops may be full with white-collar jobseekers looking for résumés and business card printing, but it may not take that long, with Shamrock's employee base up 175% in the last three years.
