Overland Park invited to learn more about law enforcement

Overland Park residents are invited to be part of a program that will provide them with a behind the scenes look into the day to day oration of the city’s police force.

The Overland Park Police Department engages in a variety of community service projects, and its Citizens Police Academy is accepting registrations for list upcoming fall sessions. One of the goals of the initiative is to enhance the relationship between residents and law enforcement, and the program is restricted to those aged18 and up.

The participants will be invited to participate in a variety of learning opportunities, and background and criminal record checks will be required to be involved. The topics that are on the agenda or discussion range from traffic enforcement to department operation and the use of force, and the activity is being offered at no cost to the public.

The plan is for the academy to run for nine weeks, and instruction will be provided by current serving law enforcement officers and other personnel. Manuals and other texts for this sort of activity may be ordered from area print shops, which will also be able to prepare customized certificates to present to the learners upon completion of the program.
The Overland Park Citizens Police Academy is scheduled to start on September 18th. The sessions will be held in the Sanders Justice Center.
