Portage residents of all ages who have been looking for a way to do their bit for the environment may want to check out an initiative on offer right in their own area. It will be taking place on a Saturday morning, and all assistance is welcome.
The Park Connection Volunteer Office has created the Indiana Dunes Drop-In Volunteer program for those who would like to get involved in an environmental stewardship project but don’t have a lot of time. They will be working with other volunteers and staff, and will tackle a variety of tasks that help to preserve the park’s cultural and natural resources.
The jobs that will be done during the volunteer session will depend on the weather, and all of the equipment needed for the activity will be supplied, including eye protection and gloves. The tasks will be performed outdoors, so the participants are encouraged to dress appropriately both for the weather and for walking in the woods off-trail.
A program like this gives the public an easy way to get involved with caring for the environment, which can play a role in creating a sense of community and pride in a park or other natural resource. A printer’s graphic design experts will be able to prepare certificates to give to each of the volunteers, which can show them their help was appreciated.
A session of the Indiana Dunes Drop-In Volunteer Program has been scheduled for the morning of December 14. Those who wish to show the park a bit of love are asked to meet up at the volunteer office, which can be found at Highway 20 and N. Mineral Springs Road.
