What's Happening in McHenry, IL…

Trees and shrubs go on short-term sale

Residents of McHenry County and Lake County in Illinois currently have the opportunity to purchase trees and shrubs from the McHenry-Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Trees and shrubs will be sold until the March 31. However, the last day to place orders is today, March 10, so interested buyers must contact the soil and water conservation district afterwards to see what they have available.

The types of trees and shrubs that can be bought include Douglas firs, white oaks, and hazelnut shrubs. Plants can be purchased in the form of seedlings, which are priced around 60 cents, or can be bought already grown, which costs around $13. Different types of trees and shrubs thrive in different areas of Illinois and the site advises interested buyers to research whether or not a plant will be well suited for their area.

Plant orders will be able to be picked up on April 21 at 2222 Dean Street in Woodstock, Illinois. The soil and water district will send each person a letter letting them know exactly when and where they will be able to collect their plants.

More information about buying trees or shrubs can be found on the brochures available on the McHenry-Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District website, or by getting in touch with the organization.
