What's Happening in McHenry, IL…

Fundraising event offers two options for book lovers

The 9th annual Holiday Book Review is taking place this December. It is a fundraising event for the Pioneer Center for Human Services.

Guests can choose between an afternoon or evening event, or even attend the two. Both are set to feature gift basket raffles and a grand raffle for prizes such as an iPad Air and a Smart TV. Raffle tickets are $10 each or $50 for six. There will also be entertainment and used book adoptions.

The event features a luncheon with Barbara Rinella. She will be reviewing the book ‘Finding the Dragon Lady: the Mystery of Vietnam's Madame Nhu’ by Monique Brinson Demery. Guests will enjoy a social hour before lunch is served.

The evening event takes place over dinner. Guests will hear a review of Barbara Walter's book ‘Audition: a Memoir’, given by Jenny Riddle.

Invitations were sent out for this event to people from all over the area, including nearby McHenry. It is likely that local stationery printers provided those invitations to the organizers.

The Holiday Book Review will be held at D'Andrea Banquets in Crystal Lake on December 5. The afternoon event will begin at 10:45 am and the evening program will start at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $50 for each event and tables for 10 are available. Contact Barb Swanson at 815-759-7144 to learn more.
