This district is one of the largest school districts in McHenry. According to Wetzel, the ADM Director, blended learning teaches students about personal learning processes while teaching them problem-solving techniques and independence. The program is not entirely online, independent or self-paced, with teachers still expected to guide the students. Students can use promotional Pens while at school.
The discussion was held during a board meeting for the district where Engel, ADM Executive Director, said:
“Ultimately, in District 300, we're really proud to provide some innovative opportunities to grow our students with real-world skills and their academics, and we do that through our blended program."
At the schools where the program is already operating, students attend classes with teachers for three days every week. The other two provide some flexibility where students have independent sessions held during regular school time. The students are allowed to continue with this type of teaching as long as they are able to maintain a minimum grade of a C.
Students from grades 7-12 can sign up for blended classes. They are able to opt-in when selecting their classes and the subjects available change depending on interest from the students.
