The McHenry County College is hosting an art exhibition with works created by Julie Weber.
The exhibit is called re | process, and is likely to interest any local lovers of art, photography, or graphic design. The artist, Weber, is a visual artist based in Chicago who works conceptually within the conventional boundaries of photography. Her main interest is in how images are created and take shape to form physical objects.
The work on this exhibit was made using special dyes. Some of the materials Weber uses for her art are typically used in commercial Print labs. When the printer ribbons are expended, they look like negatives featuring traces of the images they were used to create.
Weber, who rarely uses a camera, released a limited-edition book named ‘Remnants’ in 2017. Her bachelor of arts degree came from Dominican University in 2006 and she earned a master’s degree in fine arts in Photography in 2014 from Columbia College Chicago. When not creating art, Weber has worked as an art teacher at Northern Illinois University and Columbia College Chicago. She now teaches at Dominican University and Waubonsee Community College.
The exhibition began this month and will remain open until Friday, September 9. On Thursday, September 8, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, the galleries will host a reception where people can meet the artist. Weber will take guests on an informal tour of the gallery. Entry is free.
