Farmers and botanists in the McHenry area will have a unique opportunity to learn more about growing seasons next month.
The Season Extension Up Close workshop is planned to begin soon. It will offer McHenry residents an opportunity to learn tips and techniques for extending the growing season by up to two months. The workshop, which is being organized by the Center for Agrarian Learning at McHenry County College, will be led by instructor Rich Toibasz.
Tobiasz will lead attendees through ways to grow plants that can offer the coverage to increase the growing season to a year-round option without adding heat. He will provide insights about the high and low tunnels interested parties can use to extend the growing seasons for their favorite crops and plants. Brochure printing is essential when sharing information and knowledge at such workshops.
The course will focus on two operating high tunnels, one using electricity for heat and one using natural methods without heat. Guests will learn about the pros and cons of each option to find what is suitable for their growing needs. The information can be used to increase crop quality and quantity.
The workshop will be held at the McHenry County College Student Farm on Sunday, October 6th, beginning at 1:00 PM and ending at 4:00 PM. General admission tickets cost $20 per attendee.
