Hands-on workshop explores Japanese art in Barrington

Creative individuals in Barrington who are looking for a new art form to explore are in luck, as an Oshibana workshop is preparing to open in town.

The Pressed Flower Art Workshop with Botanic Flora Apothecary is getting ready to welcome guests this December for an afternoon of learning and creativity featuring a hands-on style. The workshop, which is open to participants 14 years of age or older, will guide participants through the process of making two unique botanical works they can take home.

The focus of the workshop will be on the process of preserving nature’s beauty through Oshibana, the Japanese art of making colorful arrangements using pressed flowers. It is expected to run for two hours, with students gaining a better understanding of arrangement techniques, including altering shape, texture, and color. Organizers can coordinate with Print shops to create instructional documents that aid the learning experience for students in such workshops.

No experience is necessary, and all students will receive positive and warm guided instruction. All materials will be provided with the cost of registration. An optional sound bath experience will follow the workshop with access to discounted pricing.

Marshmallow Moon in Barrington is hosting the workshop and sound bath, starting at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 13. Spots are limited, and tickets cost $50 for the workshop online.
