According to the treasurer's office of Cook County, residents of the area, including Barrington, are getting a refund on their property taxes.
These rebates are due to multiple exemptions such as disability, senior citizens, disabled veterans, homeowners, and the senior assessment freeze. Maria Pappas, treasurer of Cook County, stated 25,000 residents that own a home will have a zero balance for their tax bill. This would be the second installment of bills that are due August 1. Their refunds began to arrive July 1, and all should arrive by August 23, totaling at $24.6m.
Nine out of ten refunds do not need an application; instead, esidents can determine if they are getting a refund by visiting the Treasurer's website. Over 10,000 homeowners paid by check or online at the beginning of the year, and their refunds will show up on their credit card or bank account by July 26. Over 11,000 homeowners used a mortgage escrow or bank account and will have their refunds by August 23. The rest of the homeowners due a refund paid by cash, and should receive an application by July 26 to ensure the right person gets the refund.
Property owners in suburban areas will receive almost $12m in refunds with an average of $1,559 per household. Barrington Hills and Barrington have seen the largest refunds on average.
