Specialty grocery store looks to open in Meridian

Meridian may soon be home to a Trader Joe’s grocery store. A spokeswoman for the company, Kenya Friend-Daniel, said the company is interested in having one of its stores in Meridian and currently involved in the necessary procedures to make that happen.

The location of the store was not confirmed by Friend-Daniel but one of the possible locations is in the Gateway Marketplace, at the corner of Ustick and Eagle Roads. It will occupy part of the space which once was the home for Rosauers, a grocery chain that closed in December 2017.

There is an avid fan base for Trader Joe’s. Those who shop at the store enjoy its specialty products such as the dark chocolate peanut butter cups, diner mac ‘n cheese, and Speculoos gingerbread cookie butter spread. Flyer printing companies can be hired by such stores to promote their distinctive products and employee services.

Those who are employed by Trader Joe’s in full-time positions make between $40,000 and $60,000 per year, the Harvard Business Review reports. This is more than twice the wage of some of the company’s competitors.

There is no known date for the opening of the store in Meridian. It would be the second location of the chain in Idaho. Trader Joe’s has stores in 43 states with over 465 locations.
