New anchor building to come to development in Meridian

High Desert Development (HDD) based in Boise has announced its plans for an anchor building in the Orchard Park development in north Meridian. It will be a large mixed-use development with parking, office space, retail establishments, and sites for future development of residential units.

The anchor building is to be called “Crystal Barn” and will be designed by EC3 based in Los Angeles. Edwin Chan, founder of EC3, said that it is now time to reinvent the business model of shopping centers. He said that shopping now needs to be thought of as places for shared experiences and memorable encounters rather than as places to maximize sales. Such unique places might consider creating a special Logo Design to draw attention to themselves.

The building, which spans 65,000 square feet, will have two parallel structures, each 350 feet high. It will have various retail spaces and other amenities including a wave-surfing pool with food truck outside the building. Plans for the future of space include a wedding chapel and brewery. Inspiration for the project came from Mass MOCA in North Adams, Massachusetts and Marfa, Texas.

Chan said that the Crystal Barn may also be used for many kinds of experiences and activities such as art fairs, productions, sound stages, shows, and other types of temporary uses. EC3 and HDD expect to start construction this summer.
