Meridian to become home to first medical school in Idaho

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine in Meridian is currently under construction with plans to finish the building by June of next year.

Expected to open in August 2018, the facility is still waiting for approval to do so but is currently accepting applications from prospective students.

This will be the first school of medicine in Idaho. Officials commented that the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association has awarded it pre-accreditation status so that the word “proposed” can be removed from its name, and it can start to recruit students.

The founding dean and chief academic office of the school, Dr. Robert Hasty, said that is a major milestone as the school can now open its applications process and provide more information on how they can apply. He added that the brightest and best students will be recruited, and the search is on for those who want to be competent and caring physicians.

The school has a partnership with Idaho State University and has gain affiliations with 32 healthcare organizations, medical centers, and hospitals, so that students of the college can start their rotations in 2020.
