The idea is that an inland port will be created to facilitate rail use in the region. This should limit the number of trucks going through Atlanta which may be positive for business in the city. Print companies in Fayetteville may thrive as a result. Governor Nathan Deal has said:
“This new inland terminal will open the door for economic opportunity and job creation for Northwest Georgia and the region.”
The terminal will be called the Appalachian Regional Port. It has been estimated that 40,000 fewer journeys will be made by trucks traveling through Atlanta on an annual basis when the project is completed.
It has been announced that the inland port will be open for business during 2018. The state of Georgia is already home to a similar port. This was opened back in 2013.
It has been argued that the new development will have the impact of making some local products more competitive on the international market. Curtis Foltz, an executive director of the authority, has stated that this will be the outcome of reduced transit expenditure. He has pointed out that the port will be situated in an industrial area.
It has been reported that putting one container on a train will offset about 350 truck miles on the highways of Georgia.Get a Free Quote for Print
