The city of Fayetteville will be participating in the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade, along with other cities across Georgia that are involved in similar endeavors.
This effort is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association and helps to make the holidays brighter for people with behavioral health needs and developmental disabilities who reside in the state’s hospitals.
According to Mayor Greg Clifton, there are five state hospitals and two community areas in Georgia that serve these patients, many of whom have lived there almost all their lives and have little support or contact with family and friends. Fayetteville is supporting West Central Georgia Regional Hospital in Columbus and the city is asking for donations of gifts from its residents.
Some of the items that are needed include personal care goods, clothing for women and men, board games and puzzles, and movies on DVD. The City of Fayetteville will deliver these items on December 12 to West Central Georgia Regional Hospital in Columbus.
The Georgia Municipal Association began this program in cooperation with Governor Ernest Vandiver, and relies on participation from citizens of the state to donate gifts to patients, many of whom would not receive any gifts were it not for the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade.
The City is most likely turning to various printing services to inform citizens of this special way that they can bring cheer to the residents of these hospitals and community areas.
