Members of the Fayetteville City Council recently approved a new logo for Main Street Fayetteville, pleasing Brian Wismer, Fayetteville's Downtown Development Director, according to an article in the Fayette County News.
The primary goal of Main Street Fayetteville is to help revitalize the city's historic downtown, and the group believes that a new Logo Design will help its mission. According to Wismer, the group has got a “lot of mileage” from the original symbol, which has been in use since the group was first organized over 20 years ago.
The main part of the logo is a stylized version of the weather vane located on the old courthouse; it is comprised of an arrow pointing straight up. Below the head is a circle, further down the shaft are two darts with points on both ends, so that they point in all four directions. Below the darts is the base of the arrow, which is comprised of three curved ‘legs’, and below that is a ‘swoosh’, or curved line.
Each part of the logo has a meaning. For instance, the circle is inclusion, while the four arrows stand for the four parts of Main Street Fayetteville's mission: organization, promotion, design, and economic vitality. The curved base indicates a solid grounding in history, and the swoosh, which is open at the bottom, is a symbol of the unwritten future.
