Library to travel through time in film

Later this week, the Fayette County Public Library located in Fayetteville will begin hosting a film series that will present selected Best Picture winners from the 1930s to the present as a way to celebrate the countdown to the Oscars.

Screenings are free and open to the public and will take place Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm and Friday afternoons at 3:00 pm. This film series is made possible by support from the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library, which is also providing free popcorn and lemonade to members of the audience. The Friends of the Fayette County Public Library uses fundraising to provide programs and other resources that are not covered in the budget of the library.

According to Sarah Trowbridge, a public services librarian at Fayette County Public Library and the individual who organized the film series, the titles of the films cannot be listed in the paper or on the library’s web site due to the terms of the public screening license. However, a printed schedule with movie titles and their descriptions can be picked up at the library. Most likely, local printing services have been used to create the schedule.

Trowbridge added that the winners of Best Picture beginning in 1930 and from select years until 2001 will be shown in chronological order.

The film series starts on January 7 and will run until February 20.
